Falsa squash/sharbat is a healthy and refreshing summer drink that is made with fresh falsa. Falsa or grewia is also called summer berry as it is available only in 4-5 weeks of summer. Falsa berry is similar to blueberry with a sweet and sour taste. Falsa or grewia is rich in minerals and nutrients. A great source of potassium, vitamin A, C,K and is rich in antioxidants. It is also good in controlling high blood pressure, cholesterol in body and good for anemia and liver health.

In our area vendors use to come in the streets and sell this delicious berry at very cheap cost. The vendor sprinkles black salt on falsa and believe me it tastes so delicious and a kids favorite too. The most important health benefit of the grewia squash is that it will prevent you from loo in summer, gives you instant refreshment and cool mind. You may also make instant falsa sharbat or drink by blending together fresh falsa, sugar, black salt, water and ice. Serve it with more ice cubes and fresh mint leaves. I already a similar recipe of make and store phalsa sharbat on my website, this is also the same recipe with little bit differences. Do this falsa squash a try and have a good and refreshing summer.

  1. Wash the falsa (grewia).

  2. Put a wok on medium flame, add falsa in it along with 1 cup of water. Mix well and let it cook for 5 minutes.

  3. Cover the pot and let the falsa cook for another 5-6 minutes on very low flame so that grewia/flasa turns soft completely.

  4. Mash the falsa with a masher, (you may also blend these in grinder if you want too) .

  5. Strain the pulp through a strainer by adding little water in between, Discard the remaining seeds and keep the strained pulp aside.

  6. Now prepare the sugar syrup, in a pot add sugar and water, let it cook until sugar is completely dissolved.

  7. Continue cooking the sugar syrup till it becomes thick, but we do not need string consistency. 

  8. Add cooked grewia (falsa) pulp in the sugar syrup , mix well, cook on medium to low flame for another 4-5 minutes.

  9. Add lemon juice and black salt, mix well, bring the falsa sharbat to a boil and cook for another 5-6 minutes.

  10. Falsa squash/sharbat is ready, turn off the flame and let it cool down completely.

  12. In serving glass add ice cubes, prepared falsa squash and water.

  13. Give a mix and serve.

  14. _______Note: You may store this falsa squash in refrigerator for up to 1 month.

  15. With this quantity you may get 1.5 liters of falsa squash/sharbat.
